Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana Opens the Chemours Virtual Reality Hub to Enhance Workforce Readiness in STEM and Skilled Trade
On Friday, November 15th, Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana (JAKY) hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially unveil the Chemours Virtual Reality (VR) Technology Hub in JA Finance Park. The event featured representatives from Chemours, Junior Achievement, and students participating in the Chemours VR Hub in JA Finance Park. The event featured representatives from the global chemistry company Chemours, Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana (JAKY), and students participating in the Chemours VR Hub in JA Finance Park. The Hub will support JAKY’s efforts to innovate its workforce readiness programs by incorporating virtual reality technology, providing an immersive, hands-on approach to career exploration in STEM fields and skilled trades.
Integrating VR into JAKY’s curriculum opens unique opportunities for students to virtually experience a variety of professions, from medicine and engineering to chemistry and electrical trades. Through VR simulations, students can "spend a day" in the life of professionals across various fields. These simulations allow students to gain practical, career-related skills in a safe, controlled environment—an especially valuable feature for high-risk professions.
Jennifer Helgeson, President of Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana, shared her enthusiasm: “This grant from Chemours allows us to bring cutting-edge VR technology into JA Finance Park, showcasing to students the job in high demands across our workforce. The students and educators really enjoy this addition of virtual reality to our curriculum. We’re grateful for Chemours’ support in helping our students explore careers and build skills that will set them on the path to lifelong success.”
“Chemours and Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana have a shared pursuit to advance greater interest in STEM skills to the local students to nurture the next generation workforce,” said Chemours Louisville Plant Manager Dan Bookman. “At Chemours, we committed to invest $50 million by 2030 in our communities, and we’re delighted to partner with JAKY to broaden access to STEM education for area students.” This initiative marks another step forward for Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana, as it works to ensure that all students have the tools, knowledge, and inspiration to succeed in careers they are passionate about. Through this collaboration with Chemours, JAKY is furthering its mission to empower young people to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
