Teams of Junior Achievement over 120 students from JCPS particpated this year, in the first annual JA Stock Market Challenge, a simulation-based program in which high school students compete by investing and trading fake funds in the real market creating draft portfolios as teams and finalizing their stock selections.

The challenge alongside JA Take Stock in Your Future, made possible through the support of River Road Asset Management and Cerity Partners, introduces high school students to the basic concepts of how the stock market works and the impact of current events on the stock market. Students discover the benefits and challenges of investing in the stock market as part of a broader, long-term investment strategy and the risks and rewards of trading.

“We at Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana are incredibly excited to have teams of students from the community participate in this new student event.” said Jennifer Helgeson, JA President.  “JA Stock Market Challenge allows students to experience the rush of being on the trade floor, which provides a great experience for students interested in exploring what stock investment is like today.”

With a focus on financial literacy and insights into how a company’s performance on the stock market can be influenced by current events, The JA Stock Market Challenge competition brings business economics to life. As students work in teams, to make decisions on when to buy, sell, or trade stocks, they begin to see how every choice made in investing relates to their future success.
