On Tuesday, July 23rd, a ribbon-cutting ceremony took place to officially open the new sports center at JA BizTown. The event featured representatives from Louisville City FC, Racing Louisville, Junior Achievement, and students participating in the JA Summer Camp. This new storefront provides students with unique insights into the operations of a sports team, including marketing, management, and community engagement.
“We are so excited to be one of the newest storefronts in BizTown! If students ever think about turning sports into a career, it’s often from the athlete or coach perspective. Professional sports as a business offers so many different career opportunities, and we love to show students to what those opportunities look like.”, said Stephanie Burdorf, community engagement manager. “We hope our involvement in BizTown sparks the inspiration for future LouCity & Racing Louisville front office professionals!”
JA BizTown, a capstone program of Junior Achievement, offers elementary school students a hands-on, immersive experience in a simulated town. The program combines in-class learning with a day-long visit to BizTown, where students take on various roles, such as operating banks, managing restaurants, writing checks, and even voting for mayor. This practical, experiential learning helps students connect academic concepts to real-world applications.
This summer, Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana has opened its doors to provide tailored summer camp experiences for out-of-school-time organizations, offering valuable learning opportunities for youth. The addition of the sports center at JA BizTown enhances these experiences and experiences throughout the school year, providing students with a fun and engaging way to learn about the business side of sports.
Jennifer Helgeson, president of Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana shared, “We are excited to celebrate our newest storefront, Louisville City FC and Racing Louisville FC to BizTown! BizTown serves over 10,000 students annually and we are thrilled to have a fantastic partner who will highlight professional sporting career experiences.”
